      <company>a local Santa Barbara startup</company>
      <created-at type="datetime">2010-02-04T04:31:21Z</created-at>
<description>Wanted: Killer graphic designer with mad skillz.

Us: A Santa Barbara software company that's growing like genetically-modified weeds. We're a creative, hard working, fast moving, disciplined team on a mission to transform how entrepreneurs and small businesses run their shows. We love passion, motivation, ambition, commitment, exceptional quality, integrity, leaders, 'connectors', insatiable learners. Hate excuses, TGIFers, flakes, sayers-of-one-thing-and-doers-of-another.

You: Design geek with opinions.Comfortable across media - email, web, print, video. Style = quirky and clever, post-web 2.0. Think: Salesforce.com meets Mailchimp. This side of corporate, that side of amateur. Freak for the tiny details that no one but other designers consciously appreciate, but everyone subconsciously appreciates. Your non-designer friends completely don't get your fascination with fonts. Know enough about code to avoid design elements that don't translate without the web guys having to explain. Drooling for
HTML5 and CSS3.

Ready to work in a business environment: able to deliver high-quality quickly, won't take
feedback personally, makes deadlines even if it means working late sometimes, ready to find and manage outsourced designers for specific projects if necessary. Once determined, can create complete 'design guidelines' for the brand to help other designers quickly get up to speed.
Bonus Points: Passion for web interfaces. We sell hosted software and our interface is a key part of our value. We consider interface design to be a separate specialty, but if you love interface and could make a difference, that would be great.

What. When, Where: Full time. Now, preferably. Your place or mine. We're in Santa Barbara. Love to have you in the office, but we're more committed to finding a super-star than we are to you being local.

Pay: Competitive, with benefits. Make yourself indispensable and we'll make sure you won't leave. :)

How: Please apply now at and DON'T FORGET A PORTFOLIO. We'll have too many responses to respond to apps without an attached or linked portfolio.

<description>ActBlue is the nation's largest source of funds for Democrats. Launched in 2004, ActBlue created and deployed the next generation of online fundraising tools, enabling individuals and groups to raise money for the Democratic candidates and committees of their choice. In five years, we have sent more than $120 million to some 3200 candidates and committees, with a median contribution of only fifty dollars, doing as much to ensure a sustainable Democratic future as any other player in the field.

We're looking for someone to join us in redefining the landscape of political organizing. You must share our social goals, design sense, and our commitment to dependability and user experience. You'll need to be comfortable working with a small freewheeling team. And you'll need to be flexible and creative: we've learned to shift gears as quickly as politics dictates, striking at opportunities as they emerge.

We are hiring a back-end web engineer to join us. Candidates must be well-versed in general web application architecture, Rails, Javascript (Prototype or jQuery desirable), web application architecture, and SQL (we use PostgreSQL). A track record of contributing to highly-available web applications, an ability to design and implement modular components in a larger application, and familiarity with continuous integration and rapid deployment all rate high on our wishlist. An interest in UI design and comfort with cross-browser XHTML and CSS are also desirable, as is experience designing and supporting REST APIs.
