Designer/Sr. Designer at Comcast Interactive Media

The Designer/Senior Designer participates in conceptual brainstorms lead by the Creative Design Lead and/or Senior Creative Lead in a team effort. In this role, you will be responsible for the creation of rough/sketches of concepts, interactive development, site design and redesign, application design, promotional design, presentation design and editorial design for Comcast Interactive Media Group (CIM) as assigned by the Creative Design Lead and/or Senior Creative Lead.

The Designer/Senior Designer plays a key role bringing ideas, suggestions and considerations to the attention of the Creative Design Lead on any assigned task/project. You should keep in mind the “big picture”— Comcast and all it’s properties (online, STB, mobile, etc…) and how a deliverables design/execution could impact another property or resources.

Major duties:

  • Attends Core Team meetings when needed as a replacement per direction of immediate supervisor.
  • Works with the Creative Design Lead conceptualizing/brainstorming on project/deliverable based on the Creative Brief or assignment/task. Helps sketch ideas to review with the Senior Creative Lead in tandem with the Creative Design Lead as need be.
  • Partner with Copywriter, IA, Engineering, Release Management, Product Management, MarComm and other internal groups when need be to establish design needs.
  • Creates visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for Web, and application UI design. This may also include: rough/sketch concepts, mood boards, interface designs, configurations, graphics, presentations and all visuals of assigned projects/deliverables.
  • Researches stock photography, illustration, sound or video-clips as need be.
  • Communicates questions, needs, resource allocation issues, etc of more task driven efforts with the Design in a timely manner. Verbal and written details are highly recommended.
  • Must be able to take instructions, art direction and constructive criticism, as well as has accurate, timely follow-through in a fast paced environment.
  • Take part in more formalized presentations when need be as requested by the Creative Design Lead and/or Senior Creative Lead.
  • Uses communication skills to influence and support design decisions.
  • Support and communicate your design choices clearly to colleagues and project owners.
  • Initiate and build relationships both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management.
  • Creative, self-motivated team player willing to take the lead to develop modern design/interactive solutions.
  • Must posses excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects.
  • Help assure design teams adherence to schedules and implementation plans keeping the appropriate parties and leadership up to date.
  • Identifies and learns new technologies and design techniques and takes lead role in sharing knowledge. Involved with design organizations and keeps up to date on latest developments in the field.
  • Adheres to naming conventions, file organization, archiving formats and process documents.
  • Ability to mentor.
  • Create original projects and takes initiative in putting a plan in place to execute it.
  • Participates in human resources activities as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications / skills include:

Education:

  • BFA or BA preferred. The equivalent in work experience and self-study may be substituted.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in interactive design.
  • Must have a expert understanding of the most recent version of Photoshop and Illustrator. Knowledge of Fireworks, CSS, Dreamweaver, GoLive, After Effects, 3d Software, iWorks and Microsoft Office are a plus.
  • Experience designing robust Flash and HTML web sites with highly intuitive User Interfaces and navigation schemes.
  • Experience preparing and presenting designs for internal and external clients Ideal candidate must have experience working with other major high-profile web site brand(s). Agency experience preferred.
  • Superior visual literacy and expert understanding of typography, illustration, color theory, wife framing, and photo manipulation.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in full cycle design projects is required.
  • A strong portfolio of solid web and multi-media are required. Broadcast, print, identity, packaging, storyboard sketches, conceptual sketches are a plus

Qualifications:

  • Must posses the ability to concept, as well as design presentations, applications and promotions and/or other written materials as required.
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively before staff or other internal groups.
  • Must have the ability to successfully organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment is a must.
  • Understanding of project management process and solid use of process tools.
  • A strong portfolio of solid web and multi-media are required. Broadcast, print, identity, packaging, storyboard sketches, conceptual sketches are a plus.
