Design Director

Job Title: Design Director Location: North America – Foster City, CA Department: Sling Media Entertainment Group Reports To: Chief Creative Officer

The Sling Entertainment Group is a division of Sling Media and will deliver new applications and services enabled by the Slingbox’s marriage of familiar TV programming and richly interactive web-connected devices.

As Design Director you will manage the Visual Design team, and are responsible for understanding, planning, and leading the delivery of creative assets. You will provide art direction, mentorship, and coaching to Designers and Sr. Designers ensuring high quality design concepts.

As Design Director you will work in collaboration with the Information Architect and Product Developers to design compelling, highly functional, experiences that continue to evolve with the needs of our end-users.

Responsibilities: • Guide the Visual Design team in developing skills such as creative thinking, scoping, problem solving, presentation and communication. • Execute performance reviews and training. • Work with Senior Management in scheduling projects, estimating budget/resources, and scope. • Lead all phases from concept and research to design execution and production. • Maintain the highest level of quality and brand consistency with the core brand and partner brand guidelines. • Coordinate ongoing reviews of Visual Design work around projects, • Work with Project Managers to create and review project schedule based on resources and pipeline. • Maximize Visual Design department’s efficiency.

Requirements: • Knowledge of relevant industry tools • Minimum 10 years experience (preferably agency and interactive work) • Excellent conceptual thinking and communication skills. • Must be well versed in User Centered Design methodologies and techniques • A solid understanding of designing intuitive site functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation • A strong portfolio that demonstrates innovative thinking, strong creative vision and problem-solving skills for complex interactive design challenges. • Familiarity with Agile Software Development processes. • Experience managing a department or team. • Ability to inspire creativity, innovative thinking and motivate team members. • Knowledgeable about restrictions and freedoms of technology in the design process.
