SUMMARY:

Director, E- Media Business Development will be expected to make a major impact on SHRM&#8217;s financial success and the effectiveness of SHRM media via the oversight of SHRM&#8217;s E-Media business strategy and increase revenues through the development of innovative programs that leverage SHRM&#8217;s present and future digital E-Media capabilities and large audience of engaged HR professionals.

This individual will have the responsibility for areas including, but not limited to: expanding our physical conferences to include the worldwide delivery of a profitable virtual conference experience; produce and package consent to enable SHRM to expand its customer base to include non-HR audiences (in partnership with the Director of Organizational Programs) , support the growth of corporate product sales, driving a strong e-commerce strategy to enable the individual sale of research, articles, day passes to SHRM Online, etc, drive the digital delivery of editorial content, manage the business, technical/ecommerce, and user experience and general business development for the SHRM-Store.

Working with the members of SHRM&#8217;s content producing and coordinating teams, this position will be responsible for the design and delivery of E-Media information including various editorial e-newsletters and multimedia initiatives, upholding the highest standards for timeliness and quality of product to the SHRM members and other subscribers while ensuring significant revenue generation channels are maintained via advertising and the support of multiple SHRM programs. This position will ensure that SHRM&#8217;s E Media programs are of the highest quality and are the most up to date in the use of new means of communicating editorial content and building community as social media initiatives. As a source for innovation, creativity and digital inspiration that drives both editorial content and profit, this position will work closely with our colleagues in the IT/IO department, to ensure the support necessary to maintain and expand SHRM&#8217;s E-Media businesses and assets.

This position will establish, communicate and achieve stretch objectives; to evaluate the performance of all staff; to establish good procedures and processes; to ensure proper accounting and internal controls exist; and to increase SHRM&#8217;s profitability.

Manages multiple subordinate supervisors and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation of individuals and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. In addition, the success of this individual will be very dependent on his/her ability to collaborate/coordinate/cooperate with other departments and individuals within SHRM to ensure that all team members business requirements are addressed via a fair, transparent and collaborative process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The primary goal of this position will be to generate revenues via electronic delivery of HR content and products, oversee SHRM&#8217;s Social Networking and HR Talk portals, and to lead the delivery and packaging of electronically delivered editorial content and function as a senior member of the SHRM team. To leverage activities among departments whereby the overall good of the SHRM organization is maximized to enhance its mission. via SHRM&#8217;s website(s) and digital properties.

Specific responsibilities and duties include:

Develop, manage adapt and grow SHRM&#8217;s online social networking communities and ensuring that the organization has the appropriate input and feedback

Develop and manage the activities of the SHRM Store with a focus on driving revenues via existing and new products sales channels, while controlling costs and increasing organizational efficiency

Develop and implement the strategy for creating virtual conference derivatives, working closely with a variety of teams within SHRM &#8211; particularly our Conferences, IO/IT and content groups

Develop and implement the strategy, working in partnership with the Director, Organizational Programs, will create programs for serving non-HR audiences. Close collaboration our Membership and Knowledge Integration team will also be necessary to facilitate effective and efficient engagement

- Develop and execute an e-commerce strategy (working in close cooperation with IO/IT team) for selling individual content elements such as individual research reports, articles, &#8220;day passes&#8221; to SHRM&#8217;s website, e-books and digital magazines

- Direct the presentation of SHRM&#8217;s editorial products presentation online, working in close collaboration with our IO/IT team, and lead the strategy for editorial content integration

- Working with Director of Organizational Programs, will identify and package elements of content and benefits to produce subscription and content based packages to sell to non-HR audiences

Direct and leverage SHRM&#8217;s multi-media activities. Ensure that products are well produced, packaged appropriately with current and derivative products and ensure maximum profitability via advertising sponsorships, licensing, innovative derivative products, and sale of ala-carte access. Refine and enhance our multimedia activities and strategies &#8211; ensuring member increased members satisfaction profitability, and revenue growth

- Refine and develop SHRM&#8217;s Affinity programs, ensuring that SHRM maintains marketplace neutrality, while increasing revenues

- Direct the editorial content integration and packaging of content for SHRM Online and ensure that the content produced is within the established information architecture and taxonomy (managed by Manager of Online Content Development and Integration)

- This position will develop and implement a strategic business plan which will support and enhance the mission of SHRM through fulfilling the needs of an effective E-Media strategy, monitor current departmental programs and make recommendations based on stakeholder feedback and collaboration for new areas of products in print and online

- Work as part of a team to research and launch new products and develop spin-offs from current titles

- Assists with the development of marketing plans for marketing and promotional activities for all publications and online advertising sales ensuring properties are appropriately advertised and marketed. Partner with our marketing and sales support teams; analyze marketing efforts to determine the most efficient use of marketing investment including response analysis and ROI

- Using the research derived from the Web Metrics and Usability analyst, will make recommendations for changes to the look and feel of the website and other electronically delivered products

- Participates in the development of sales &amp; marketing department goals for the SHRM Strategic Plan, negotiating and implementing contracts and ensuring compliance, presenting proposals for new products

- Up to 30% business travel

- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor&#8217;s Degree preferred or equivalent level of experience

- Minimum 5-10 years' internet product development, sales, and content experience required

- Proven ability to train and lead others required

- Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills

- Computer savvy; knowledgeable in the use of common internet design programs

 Experience in web e-commerce applications and implementation

- Knowledge of the HR industry a plus

- Knowledge of billing, accounts receivable activities, and financial statement analysis is essential

- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities
